Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up living in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell became a reporter for KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. She was then a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located situated in Washington DC. She joined NBC News Washington two years later as a general reporter. 1981 was the year she began reporting on at the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the Chief Correspondent to Congress. She was made the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell was host and panelists on the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was on an audience for the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in the John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her role in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first reporter to report on White House stories for NBC News during the presidency of Ronald Reagan as president between 1981 and 1988. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news stories such as weapons control, the budget tax as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended many summits with the help of the President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
