Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up within New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started in the field of radio and television reporter for Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976, Mitchell became a reporter for WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years later as an general reporter. 1981 was the year she began reporting on at the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the Chief Correspondent to Congress. Mitchell was promoted to the chief White House correspondent in 1992. As well as the Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell is a regular in the TV news program Meet the Press as a host and panelist. Mitchell was a panelist in 1988's presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004, The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during the presidency of Ronald Reagan in office from 1981 to 1988. She reported on a variety of notable stories, including arm control, budget tax reform, and the Iran-contra scandal. She also was frequently along with the President Reagan for summits alongside Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
