Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American TV reporter, journalist and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. 1976 Mitchell was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). In Washington she was named general correspondent by NBC News two year later. She began to cover the White House in 1981 and was named chief correspondent for the congressional office by 1988. She was made chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell was host and an expert panelist on the TV program Meet the Press. She was a member of a panel for the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to cover White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan in office from 1981 to 1988. She reported on a variety of noteworthy stories including weapons control, the budget tax reform, and the Iran-contra scandal. She also went on numerous trips along with the president Reagan to summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world heads.
